La Mirande
A journey through time.
From the Romans to “Babylonian” papacy, to pre-Revolutionary France and beyond, La Mirande, a landmark intricately related to the history of Avignon, with the Popes’ Palace next door is a story without end that excites the imagination.
Treasures within.
Tiled and parquet floors, antique and custom-made carpets, reproduction wall-coverings designed in the 18th century and original tapestries, wood-panelling, master works of art, antique furniture and plush marble baths all come together to create a serene sense of period harmony throughout all 26 guest-rooms. All rooms are decorated differently with the spirit of the 18th century.
Treat yourself to time out.
The hotel boasts a blissful garden with terrace for dining ‘al fresco’ in the Summer, a wicker-furnished courtyard-conservatory for afternoon tea, the opulent “Salon Rouge” - a sitting-room with an open fire for cold and rainy days, the “Salon Chinois” where one can enjoy more tea or a hot chocolate, a softly-lit dining room with its double-coffered, Renaissance ceiling and 17th century, Aubusson tapestry.
Utterly romantic.
La Mirande is utterly romantic not least in its unique location directly adjacent to the eastern facade of the Popes’ Palace which is visible from almost every room as well as from the beautiful garden.
Michelin starred restaurant.
La Mirande is home to one of Avignon’s best restaurants. Young chef, Florent Pietravalle, won his first Michelin star in 2019. His cuisine is one of emotion, which strikes a responsive chord in us, an instinctive appetite for unadulterated nature. You can sample his devotion to culinary excellency in his 6 or 9-step tasting menu, exploring the strong savours of Provence’s bountiful food supply.
Ancient kitchen.
The hotel holds successful practical cooking-classes for local people as well as hotel-guests. They are held in the beautiful Old Kitchen which dates back to the turn of last century. This place is also used on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for a lively ‘table haute’. The spirit of these special evenings consists in sharing a meal around one, single table for a maximum of 14 people and to appreciate the menu prepared in front of you by the chef who will cook using the original wood-burning, cast-iron stove which dates back to the 19th century.
